To update firmware from Windows operating system on target server:

1. Place the Component in a temporary directory.
2. From the same directory, run the Component by double-clicking it.

Resolved a very rare issue where the system may either hang during system boot or boot with configuration options set incorrectly when non-volatile storage becomes corrupt. This is normally seen as the system hanging during system boot without anything displayed to video. Once the system gets into this state, the maintenance jumper can be utilized to recover operation of the system and restore configuration defaults. This revision of the System ROM will restore configuration defaults when non-volatile storage becomes corrupt.

Resolved a processor issue where an unlikely and complex sequence of conditions operating in 64-bit mode could result in an application-level error, blue screen, kernel panic, or other unpredictable system behavior. Resolved an extremely rare condition where the system may reset, experience a blue screen, or kernel panic when configured with Intel Xeon 5200 or 5400 series processors or with later steppings of the Intel Xeon 5100 and 5300 series processors. If the HP Health agents are installed when this condition occurs, the Integrated Management Log (IML) would contain at least one 'An Uncorrectable System Error has occurred (Error Code 0x0000002D, 0x00000000)' entry. The failure condition is a result of a misalignment between the addressability range of the memory controller and this processor series and requires a unique type of software interaction. If the issue is not being seen, it is unlikely it will be observed unless a new driver, application, or OS is loaded. There is no performance impact associated with this fix and this issue does not affect Intel 5000-series processors.

Update to the latest revision of the Broadcom PXE option ROM (2.1 v4.6.8) for the embedded NIC. This update increases the ability for the PXE option ROM to execute for systems with a large amount of option cards which may have run out of option ROM space in the past.

Resolve an issue where the server would not boot to CD/DVD media that was formatted with HDD Emulation. This issue was seen with certain versions of Symantec Ghost but is not limited to this application.

Resolve an issue which would prevent execution of option ROMs for devices with option ROMs greater than 64 Kbytes in size (which are extremely uncommon).

Add support to the ROM-Based Setup Utility (RBSU) for disabling the Core C3 processor idle state. Core C3 is an effective power efficiency feature with minimal impact to performance. This option should only be disabled by users who are highly sensitive to processor latency.

Resolved an issue where Microsoft Windows Server 2008 would not properly control processor power states when the HP Power Regulator setting is configured for OS Control Mode. This can result in sub-optimum power management when using Microsoft Windows 2008. This issue does not affect systems using Microsoft Windows 2003 or any distribution of Linux.

Resolved an issue where the system would fail to wake up from a Wake On LAN request when the system was previously shutdown using Microsoft Windows Server 2008. As part of this change, the user must enable Wake On LAN support under Device Manager for each NIC port using the Power Management tab.

Added support for Intel's Core Multi-Processing (CMP) Technology, that allows disabling of processor cores. This new ROM Based Setup Utility (RBSU) option allows for disabling one-half the cores on each physical processor such that a dual-core processor will have one core enabled and a quad-core processor will have two cores enabled. Update to the latest revision of the Broadcom PXE option ROM (2.1 v4.6.8) for the embedded NIC. This update increases the ability for the PXE option ROM to execute for systems with a large amount of option cards which may have run out of option ROM space in the past.

Resolve an issue where the server would not boot to CD/DVD media that was formatted with HDD Emulation. This issue was seen with certain versions of Symantec Ghost but is not limited to this application.

Resolve an issue which would prevent execution of option ROMs for devices with option ROMs greater than 64 Kbytes in size (which are extremely uncommon).

Add support to the ROM-Based Setup Utility (RBSU) for disabling the Core C3 processor idle state. Core C3 is an effective power efficiency feature with minimal impact to performance. This option should only be disabled by users who are highly sensitive to processor latency.

Resolved an issue where the System ROM would not honor the Standard Boot Order (IPL) when certain formatted CD/DVDs are installed. This issue is seen when a Microsoft Windows ® CD is installed but the user does not select to boot from the CD when prompted by the media.

Resolved an issue where the system can not boot to media in certain DVD-RW SATA optical drives. This issue is only seen on warm resets and only impacts ML350 G5 systems with SATA optical drives.

This issue will not affect systems with these processors installed if both processors are the same revision. This issue was not seen with any other operating systems or with Microsoft Windows Server 2008 x86.

Resolved an issue where the system may experience an error that will be result in either a Machine Check Event or a Fatal Memory Error logged to the Integrated Management Log (IML). This issue is only seen with certain DIMMs and is extremely rare. This issue does not indicate an actual memory DIMM problem and is fully addressed by this new release of the System ROM.

Resolved an issue where Microsoft Windows Server 2008 would not properly control processor power states when the HP Power Regulator setting is configured for OS Control Mode. This can result in sub-optimum power management when using Microsoft Windows 2008. This issue does not affect systems using Microsoft Windows 2003 or any distribution of Linux.

Resolved an issue where the system would fail to wake up from a Wake On LAN request when the system was previously shutdown using Microsoft Windows Server 2008. As part of this change, the user must enable Wake On LAN support under Device Manager for each NIC port using the Power Management tab.

Added support for the latest Dual-Core Intel Xeon 5200-series and Quad-Core Intel Xeon 5400-series processors.

Added support for the latest Dual-Core Intel Xeon 5200-series and Quad-Core Intel Xeon 5400-series processors.

Added support for the Processor Core C3 power management feature. On supported processors, this feature will allow inactive cores to go into a lower power state when another core on the processor package is active. Power savings will vary based on the type of workload being run on the server.

Added support for Intel's Core Multi-Processing (CMP) Technology, that allows disabling of processor cores. This new ROM Based Setup Utility (RBSU) option allows for disabling one-half the cores on each physical processor such that a dual-core processor will have one core enabled and a quad-core processor will have two cores enabled. This feature is not supported by all models of the Intel Xeon processor. Consult Intel documentation for further information.

We need to know whether you have the dual boot feature set upon on your system - do you have the choice of which operating system - Windows 7 or XP - to boot from when you boot the computer ?

Almost all software installations have a default choice or a Custom choice or similar, or you can often change the location of where it is installed from the default - e.g.change the drive letter to E at the beginning of the location.

If 2000 or XP was installed when there were no other hard drive partitions Setup can detect as having previously been assigned a drive letter, Setup will assign C to the partition Windows itself is installed on.
However, if Setup DOES detect other hard drive partitions as having previously been assigned a drive letter, Setup will assign the first drive letter available alphabetically to the partition Windows itself is installed on, NOT C.
You can get around that at least two ways - either disconnect all other hard drives while running Setup if all the other drive partitions are on other drives, or use a third party 'partition manipulation' program to HIDE all other hard drive partitions BEFORE you run Setup.

On the other hand, I found, for the first installation of Vista on a computer, that Vista's Setup assigns C to the partition Windows itself is installed on, regardless of whether it detects other hard drive partitions were already assigned a drive letter including C, at least it does when the other partitions were made in 2000 or XP. The same probably applies to Windows 7.

I haven't tried it yet, but I suspect when Vista's or Windows 7's Setup detects there is already one Vista or Windows 7 installation, it will assign D to the partition Windows itself is installed on, or the first available drive letter, for the second installation.

(Vista still sees partitions that were hidden by doing that with a third party 'partition manipulation' program)

If XP were installed after Windows 7 was installed, I suspect when you boot XP, it will NOT see it's Windows installation as being on C.
