FOUNDERS' CORNER

Heilig School is a registered trade name and property of Heilig Schools plc. It was founded by the two dedicated educational experts with long historical friendships in the 2014/15 academic year. These are Dr. Wajana Lako, the president, and Mrs. Shemeket Begashaw, the Managing Director of the School.

Dr.Wajana Lako Labisso was born in Hilena Korke kebele (Damot Pulasa Woreda, Southern Ethiopia). He attended his elementary school at Shanto School (Wolayta zone) and his high school at one of the legendry Catholic Schools in Adama. He is assistant Professor of cancer and molecular biology at Pathology department, Black Lion Hospital, Addis Ababa University. He used to serve as a Director of diagnostic services in Tikur Anbessa Specialized Hospital and deputy head of pathology department. He is also a senior molecular biologist at Addis Ababa University, College of Health Sciences, and School of Medicine. He held his PhD in cancer and molecular biology from one of Top Universities in Europe-Technical University of Munich, Germany. Dr. Wajana has various degrees and diplomas on education, namely MSc in Medical education (from AAU), Bachelor of education (from Bahir Dar University) and higher diploma certificate (from AAU). In addition, he carried out many researches concerning cancer and his research results are published in peer reviewed reputable international journals. More than 15 publications are available in the web pages; anybody can browse and read his research output in Google by searching as Wajana Lako Labisso. Currently, his research focuses on prevention of cancer, development of anticancer drugs and mechanisms of carcinogenesis. He works also on the role of social media in the facilitating medical education in Ethiopia.

Mrs.Shemeket Begashaw was born in Adama town, Kebele 10. He attended his elementary and secondary schools at one of the pioneer Catholic schools in Adama. He has a bachelor degree in Business Administration and a Master’s degree in educational leadership. Mr. Shemekit was trained as librarian in diploma at Addis Ababa University and served as a chief librarian in public and many private high schools and colleges. He has been both a teacher and school administrator in Heilig School since its conception. Currently, Mr. Shemekit is the managing director of the school and most of the strategic plans and policies were designed by him, in collaboration with his cofounder.
